This Christmas, the UNICEF Pigotta is back
Once again, this Christmas, the UNICEF Pigotta, the cloth doll symbolizing solidarity, will be present in many squares across Italy to support the organization’s programs to combat malnutrition. As always, Alessia Marcuzzi is joining the initiative as its spokesperson this year, renewing her commitment to the most vulnerable.
Malnutrition is a severe threat to millions of children, compromising their survival, physical growth, and cognitive development. Worldwide, over 148 million children suffer from chronic malnutrition, 45 million are affected by acute malnutrition, with 13.7 million in the most severe form. Additionally, more than 450 million children live in or flee from conflict zones, enduring unimaginable suffering and having their rights systematically violated.
The Pigotta 2024 campaign aims to raise funds to provide therapeutic foods, vaccines, and medicine in many countries, helping children affected by malnutrition and humanitarian emergencies.
“The Pigotta has raised nearly 30 million euros in 30 years, saving the lives of thousands of children. It is an extraordinary doll that unites, thanks to the commitment of our volunteers across Italy and the generosity of those who choose to adopt it. This commitment translates into concrete actions that save lives worldwide,” said Carmela Pace, President of UNICEF Italy. She added, “I thank Alessia Marcuzzi from the bottom of my heart for supporting this important project again. Alessia has supported UNICEF for many years, showing great sensitivity toward the most vulnerable.”
You can adopt the UNICEF Pigotta with a minimum donation of 20 euros. The dolls are available in Italian squares, at UNICEF provincial committees, and online.
